Pakse International Airport (PKZ)
A small, relaxed airport only about 3 km north-west of central Pakse (the riverside / Charoen Sedone area). It is the gateway to the Bolaven Plateau, Wat Phou and the 4,000 Islands.
Domestic flights
- From Vientiane — the main route, roughly 1 h 10 min in the air, with flights on most days.
- From Luang Prabang and from Savannakhet — direct or one-stop flights in some seasons.
International flights
There have been flights from Bangkok and other regional cities (e.g. in Cambodia or Vietnam), but routes change often with the season — please check current schedules directly with the airlines. A popular alternative is to fly to Ubon Ratchathani in Thailand and cross overland at Vang Tao (see "From Thailand").
When you land
- Immigration — international arrivals need their passport ready; e-Visa holders should carry a printed approval.
- Visa on arrival — if your nationality needs a visa, bring a passport photo and US dollars in cash.
- SIM cards and ATMs — facilities are limited (there may be only one ATM), so carry some cash. SIM cards are easier to buy in town.
